Ditech Networks (News - Alert) is deploying Empirix’s Hammer test solution in order to verify the Voice-over-IP (VoIP) capabilities of the Ditech Networks’ Packet Voice Processor (PVP) and remediate issues throughout its development process.
In addition to assuring service quality prior to bringing its product to market, the move is expected to enable Ditech to discover and isolate issues, prioritize remediation and meet customer requirements for media crossover.
“Ditech relies on Empirix’s extensive media testing capabilities necessary to ensure that the PVP would be able to optimize and measure voice quality in real time, on every phone call, in both directions for VoIP and 3G networks,” said Conne Skidanenko, senior director of engineering, Ditech Networks.
The Hammer solution was selected because of its ability to perform Ditech Networks’ demanding test scenarios. Hammer’s comprehensive capabilities include media transcoding verification across a wide range of codecs, failover testing and detailed VoIP call analysis.
The Bedford, Massachusetts-based Empirix specializes in helping organizations adopt complex communications solutions, counts planning, assessment, and development; focused testing during roll-out; and on-going contact center testing and monitoring as part of its technology lifecycle.
Since 1992, Empirix’s Hammer testing and monitoring solutions have helped Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs), Service Providers and Enterprise Contact Centers successfully transition to new technologies including Unified Communications (News - Alert) IP Contact Centers, VoIP, NGN, and IMS-based networks.
As TMCnet recently reported, Empirix has been snapping up awards in recent years for its VoIP Testing and Monitoring solutions and last month were again honored when Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) award the company with its 2009 Global VoIP Test & Monitoring Equipment Market Leadership of the Year Award.
“The Hammer technology’s second-to-none test capabilities made it easy to find and fix issues as the project evolved,” said Skidanenko.
Hammer testing solutions emulate users and devices interacting with voice-centric applications, including making calls, verifying features, measuring voice quality and determining performance, as well as proving system and multi-vendor interoperability of VoIP, NGN and IMS architectures.
As a result of the deal, Ditech Networks has reduced costs related to bringing PVP to market and ensured overall customer satisfaction with the quality of the final product.
“Our scalable architecture and broad range of VoIP test functionality provides Ditech Networks with the depth of information needed to create a solid product,” said Gordon Eddy (News - Alert), director of product management, Empirix. “We are pleased that Ditech Networks has been able to leverage our technology to its advantage and look forward to future developments in our partnership.”
In March, Ditech Networks unveiled “toktok,” a voice-enabled service that connects people with popular Web productivity tools through one word spoke during a phone call.
The service allows users to integrate Gmail, Google (News - Alert) calendar and Google contacts applications enable them to do things such as access and schedule appointments and create new tasks, while talking on the phone.
