Aethra Telecommunications and Orange (News - Alert) Polska have teamed on testing the Fiber-to-the-Distribution-Point (FTTdp) technology.
Aethra Telecommunications develops, manufactures and markets high performance network access devices and carrier solutions. Part of the global Orange group, Orange Polska is a huge telecom in Central Europe.
Both companies will collaborate on testing the possibilities offered by the FTTdp technology. While lab tests were finalized in December 2013, field trial in Warsaw began early this year.
However, the completion of this project will take several months.
Based on the concept of using the last tens of meters of copper, the FTTdp can easily overcome the challenges associated with fiber cabling inside existing buildings.
This technology guarantees deployment times and reduces costs for the operators.
Once the testing is complete, Orange Polska customers will use FTTdp to enjoy the triple play experience and services currently used by FTTH customers.
FTTdp customers can expect 200Mbps download speeds, voice and IPTV (News - Alert) in the coming days.
Orange Polska was in news recently for signing an agreement with global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider Huawei (News - Alert).
The Chinese ICT giant will supply 2nd-generation E-band microwave products to Orange Polska over the next two years. Huawei recently conducted a Fibre To The Distribution Point, or FTTdp, G.FAST (News - Alert) technical field trial.
This G.FAST trial was conducted in partnership with telecommunications services company BT (News - Alert) at a location close to the BT Adastral Park R&D centre in Ipswich, UK.
“The G.FAST trial has the potential to demonstrate how ultrafast bandwidth access may be more efficiently delivered to consumers and businesses,” said Dr Tim Whitley, managing director, Research and Innovation. “We will be observing the results of the trial with interest to see whether G.FAST technology could play a role in ensuring BT has the best network in the short, medium and long term.”
