By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Infonetics Research, an international market research and consulting firm serving the communications industry since 1990, unveiled its third quarter of 2010 Wireless LAN and WiFi (News - Alert) Mesh Equipment and Phones market share and forecasts report.

As stated in the report, Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics (News - Alert) Research, revenue from wireless LAN equipment is up year-over-year (3Q 2009 to 3Q 2010) in every major region of the world, but North America and EMEA stand out with strong double-digit sequential and year-over-year growth. North America is doing well in many equipment markets this quarter, and EMEA is back on track after stalling in 2Q 2010.

“Once we tally fourth quarter results early next year, we expect the overall WLAN market will have grown about 17 percent in 2010 over 2009,” Machowinski added.

Infonetics’ wireless LAN and WiFi mesh report provides market size, market share, analysis, and forecasts through 2014 for dependent and independent access points, indoor and outdoor mesh network nodes, WLAN controllers, and enterprise single-mode WiFi phones. Companies tracked include Aruba, Bel Air, Cisco, D-Link, Enterasys, Extreme, H3C, HP, Meru, Motorola, NETGEAR, Polycom (News - Alert), Proxim, Ruckus, SMC, Trapeze, and others.

Key highlights of the report is that worldwide wireless LAN equipment revenue grew 14 percent sequentially in 3Q 2010 to $680 million, continuing a trend of positive growth from the market low set in 1Q 2009; worldwide, WLAN revenue is up 12 percent from this time a year ago (3Q 2009); single mode WiFi phone shipments are up 20 percent sequentially and passed the 100,000-mark, as PBX (News - Alert) sales recovered and existing customers put in additional orders; Shipments of 802.11n access points (APs) now make up 44 percent of all AP shipment, up 5 percentage points from the previous quarter, and up 16 points from 12 months ago.

Also, the report indicated that Cisco (News - Alert) increased its revenue share of the worldwide WLAN equipment market to 51 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous quarter, and Aruba, the top-ranked WLAN specialist, is in second place and HP at the third place.
