Developer Aculab recently launched the ApplianX IP Gateway (News - Alert), a part of the ApplianX portfolio of offerings and that boasts an "easy to install, configure and manage network device."
With the enterprise class ApplianX IP Gateway, a deployment-ready SIP to TDM gateway that bridges between PSTN
and IP networks, enterprises are offered a way use new IP based services and endpoints while still being able to also use their TDM based equipment, all while reducing operational costs.
The new offering also includes 1, 2 or 4 E1 or T1
trunks that support a variety of E1 and T1 protocols and approvals, and which make it possible for enterprises to deploy the device worldwide to connect to their remote offices and service networks.
Other advantages of the new gateway include the ability to easily configure and administer the offering from an HTML interface, so users can have remote backup and restore of configurations and user data that is stored.
For enterprises looking to continue leveraging their investment in legacy equipment, the ApplianX IP
Gateway also "offers support for many PBX (News - Alert) inter-working protocols, such as Q.SiG and DPNSS," a news release notes.
The news release also notes the ApplianX IP Gateway offers support for a number of voice codecs including "G.711, G.723.1, G.726, G.729A&B and iLBC, guaranteeing connection to a diverse mix of endpoint devices."

And while the new gateway is an initial offering within the ApplianX portfolio, the company has said it will eventually also include a range of voice and video IP gateways, SIP
trunking gateways, media servers and associated devices, "available in both enterprise class and carrier class presentations."
In an interview with TMC's Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), Alan Pound, MD and CTO of Aculab commented, "The strategy behind ApplianX was set against the backdrop of a dramatically changing the market for hardware and software-based enabling technologies… The ApplianX range has been designed with this trend in mind, offering deployment-ready products based on Aculab’s award winning Prosody X IP media processing cards. Each ApplianX product plays an infrastructure role in the converged networks of enterprises and service providers, to can address a number of service provision needs. In short, we are extending the reach of our technology to a broader set of solution providers and end users."
