Timothy McDonald Joins magicJack VocalTec as Chief Operating Officer

magicJack VocalTec (News - Alert), Ltd, a cloud-based communications company, recently expanded its core management team by appointing industry expert Timothy McDonald as its new chief operating officer.


McDonald holds 20 years of management experience in the Internet and communications industries.  He also has deep knowledge of growing tech related businesses.

Officials said that in his new role as COO, McDonald will oversee marketing, channel management, new products, and corporate development. He will report directly to the CEO, Gerald Vento.

"I have been working with key management for the last nine months on a range of mission-critical initiatives, which are now being implemented," said McDonald, in a press statement. "magicJack's well-known brand, high traffic distribution channels, 3.3 million device customers, over 5 million registered app users and a strong Balance Sheet provide a unique platform for growth. I'm thrilled to join Jerry and the team to help accelerate growth and build shareholder value."

Prior to joining magicJack VocalTec, McDonald was a partner with Eagle River, Craig McCaw's private investment company, where he represented the firm on the Boards of Clearwire (News - Alert). He also led the restructuring of a privately held online video provider.

Earlier, he had represented Merrill Lynch on the boards of ArrayCommm and German mobile data operator Deutsche Brietband Dienste GmbH. He was also the founding CEO of a Web-based software company, where he both raised investment capital and led the software development and design team, before the company’s profitable sale. Along with several Sprint (News - Alert) and Clearwire alumni, McDonald also founded Scatteree Partners.

magicJack VocalTec aims to be an easy-to-use, low cost solution to telecommunications and has sold more than 10 million award-winning magicJack devices, till date.
