Dell (News - Alert) has finally laid some of their recent leaks to rest and announced their Precision M4600 and M6600 mobile workstations. In February some news first came out about the Dell Precision M4600 and the M6600 mobile workstations originally from a leaked manual from Dell, although this has now been confirmed with a release date and some prices.

For the professional on-the-move, the 15.6-inch M4600 and 17.3-inch M6600 notebooks feature an aluminum and magnesium alloy chassis that can withstand pretty intense temperatures, vibration, dust, altitude and shock, and are equipped with a 2nd generation Core processor and up to 32GB of RAM. Both are based on Intel's Sandy Bridge platform and each offers a range of choices from AMD's (News - Alert) FirePro Mobility GPUs and NVIDIA's Quadro graphic cards.

“AMD and Dell have collaborated to offer the Dell Precision M6600 with AMD FirePro M8900 and Dell Precision M4600 with AMD FirePro M5950 as workflow tools for professionals in a wide range of industries,” said Sandeep Gupte, director of product management at AMD Professional Graphics. “With AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology, engineers and designers can increase their productivity by expanding their visual real estate. Dell Precision workstations and AMD FirePro? Mobility Professional Graphics deliver advanced technology, performance and reliability that professionals expect.”

Besides these two notebooks, Dell is offering the Precision R5500 rack-mount workstation. This monster is capable of supporting up to five full-length, full-height PCIe x16 cards, dual graphics cards, up to 192GB of memory, up to five SATA drives and six SAS (News - Alert) drives, and runs one or two Xeon 5600 series processors.

These chips are based on Westmere technology as opposed to Sandy Bridge, but combined can allow for a total of twelve physical cores and twenty-four logical cores. The rack workstation also offers certifications from some ISVs including Autodesk, PTC, Siemens PLM Software, Softimage, Schlumberger (News - Alert), ESRI, Dynamic Graphics and CNC.

The U.S. starting price for the Dell Precision M4600 is $1,678 and $2,158 for the M6600 and both will be available globally on May 10. The Dell Precision R5500 starts at $2,551 USD and will be available in the U.S. and EMEA on May 3 and in Asia-Pacific Japan region on May 10.
