Virtual Office: Vanity Toll-Free Phone Numbers

By Jessica Kostek, TMCnet Channel Editor

Have you even seen a commercial for a company, loved what they did and wanted to find out more? Too bad you couldn’t because not only were you not in possession of a pen and paper but remembering their toll free number was next to impossible.

For companies worry this could happen to them must think about getting a vanity phone number, also called a toll-free number, from Phone.com’s virtual office! Link your company name or service within the toll-free number and watch your business grow.

Vanity phone numbers allow the user to translate their business phone number into letters for a more memorable phrase or word, example, 888-582-GOAL.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “having a toll-free number is quite cheap these days when you consider the benefits it can offer a fledgling business. Making it easier for prospective customers to call -- and to remember what to dial -- will only boost call volume, and your sales potential.”

In addition, The Wall Street Journal said, “studies have found that toll-free numbers used in advertising produce many more calls than standard phone numbers.”

It’s true. Studies have shown that customers usually associate toll free numbers with high quality products.

A study by Michael J. Motto Advertising in New Providence, NJ, found that radio ads with a vanity 800 number drew 14 times more calls than those with a numeric 800 number.

"The results of this study not only confirm conventional wisdom that vanity numbers draw more calls, they remove even the slightest doubt," said Sandra Murray, president of Response Marketing Group, Burlington, VT, the marketing firm that provided the shared-use vanity 800 numbers used in the study.

Michael Motto, president of Motto Advertising, added, "the results of this study is overwhelming evidence that vanity numbers are truly indispensable."
