VoIP Can Help Make Forwarding Calls Simpler in the Virtual Office

By Monica Gleberman, Contributing Writer

Traveling or being away from business for a long period of time can really hamper on your ability to be able to stay on top of work related issues. Many times employees will ask that their work phone be re-routed to their personal cell phone to make sure they can still receive all business calls while away. Same thing goes for email, faxes, and so on. What makes the process easier is when you are setup on a VoIP because everything is available via the Internet.

Transferring calls, sending faxes, receiving emails at a different address – can all be accomplished by simply logging into the management portal that you use for your VoIP service and changing it over. However, as with everything related to technology things are not always as simple.

Stuart Zipper, Contributing Editor for Communications Technology, recently wrote a blog in which he described some issues he had with reprogramming his system. Zipper said he had been traveling for two months and setup to have both personal and business calls forwarded to his abroad number and then to his cell phone, which ended up being way more complicated than he thought.

“It wasn’t very long before I started getting emails and cell phone calls telling me that my home office phone wasn’t ringing, calls were going straight to voice mail,” said Zipper. “It seems that I had deleted the full time follow me instructions, my home phone never rang with those instructions and I forgot one little detail, I still had to “tell” my phone number to ring on the ATA sitting on my desk.”

Using a VoIP service is supposed to make switching over your phone lines, transferring numbers, forwarding calls, and staying connected at all times even when your not at home base a lot more simple. Zipper showed that this is true as long as you do some research and pick the right VoIP company to host your calls.

Zipper said after his disastrous experience he decided to switch over to an easier system that allows for a more simple re-routing service. “

The fact is that it is phenomenally easy to set up fairly complex phone forwarding routines using the tools offered by Phone.com…It makes my freelance writing business look like a larger company,” said Zipper.

Zipper explained that as long as you stay on top of how you want to change up your phone forwarding system you should have no problem working out the kinks and will never miss a call again.

Phone.com (News - Alert) offers numerous services with very little installation that could get you up and running in a matter of minutes. All services can be connected to multiple systems allowing users to program a complex system with ease.
