BrightCom Demonstrates Telepresence Solutions at Industry Conference

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

A Huntington Beach, Calif.-based provider of telepresence and video conferencing solutions announced it will showcase its integrated solutions at an upcoming industry conference.

BrightCom officials said they plan to exhibit the L37, the company’s modular telepresence workstation, and the ClearView 1052 HD Mobile Video Conferencing solution at Presence 2009, the 12th Annual International Workshop on Presence. The event, which is scheduled Nov. 11 to 13 at the Marina del Rey Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif., is sponsored by the International Society for Presence Research.

Telepresence (News - Alert), as defined by the International Society for Presence Research, is a psychological state or subjective perception in which a person fails to accurately and completely acknowledge the role of technology in an experience, thus offering human communication an experience similar to an in person meeting. The Presence conference offers a relaxed forum for the presentation of presence scholarship and applications, and discussion sessions.

During the event, BrightCom officials will demonstrate the L37, a modular telepresence workstation that is well suited for two to six people. It lets people instantly connect and collaborate in a fully immersive telepresence environment.

The solution integrates telepresence with Web conferencing functions offering life-like communication that lets participants and colleagues, customers and partners in conference rooms and offices across the world feel as though they are in the same room. The L37 is part of BrightCom’s Lumina Telepresence, a new line designed for business collaboration, which the company launched in September.

Presence 2009 attendees can experience BrightCom's integrated telepresence solutions, an approach that combines life-like conversation with Web conferencing features, which include desktop sharing, remote desktop control, data sharing and cooperative data markup. In addition, BrightCom will demonstrate how Lumina Telepresence and ClearView Video Conferencing let attendees conduct instant meetings without plugging their laptops into the system and instead, connect via a secured, online meeting client.

“BrightCom is honored to be included in the International Society for Presence Research’s Presence 2009,” said Bob McCandless, CEO of BrightCom. “We are always eager to take as much insight and as many ideas as we can from the academic community as we progress with our vision of integrated telepresence and video conferencing solutions.”

Presence 2009 will include several keynote speakers who will address various aspects of telepresence and its role in today’s society. Speakers include Barbara Hayes-Roth, an internationally recognized expert in intelligent agents and interactive characters, Howard Lichtman, founder and president of the Human Productivity Lab, an independent research consultancy that advises organizations on telepresence technologies and Albert "Skip" Rizzo, research scientist and research professor at the Institute for Creative Technologies and Department of Psychiatry/School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California.
