In the execution of its contract with BBC, system integrator Dega Broadcast Systems sought to establish a duplex radio link at the broadcaster's new creative hub at MediaCityUK on Salford Quays by selecting the creator of wireless products Wood & Douglas for the job.
By incorporating Symphony and Duo products from Wood & Douglas, Dega expects to provide coverage across the entire news and sports studios and the entire Plaza area, enabling simultaneous studio floor communication in both directions, according to company officials.
“The Corporation’s studio facility is a large scale and complex installation that demands working with dependable partners. With Wood & Douglas we have just that: a long term working partnership based on proven reliability, so when it came to the technical installation for the corporation we would never consider going anywhere else,” David Addey, project director at Dega Broadcast Systems said.
Duo is a compact push-to-talk wireless intercom while Symphony provides broadcasters with a wireless intercom duplex base station that is easy to install. Working in conjunction, they help studio crews to communicate effectively during productions.
Both products, according to officials, were designed explicitly to eliminate interference and reduce audio fatigue. Symphony delivers low distortion, high quality audio and when coupled with the Duo range does just that. It reduces the need for crews to take breaks more often and saves time and money in the process.
In addition, the Symphony range allows gallery producers to talk to different teams on different channels, which officials say enables users of the talkback systems to hear information that is relevant only to them.
Further an operator-worn headset and boom microphone help professional studio crews and gallery producers to communicate effectively with each other.
The team at Wood and Douglas offers a realistic approach to all aspects of system design and installation, enabling major broadcasters and small independent companies to get value for their money, according to company officials.
