Loquendo Lets You Tell Your iPhone Who to Call

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Speech technologies provider, Loquendo, recently announced the release of its very first iPhone (News - Alert) application, Dillo! The new offering is a voice dialer that allows users to say the name of the person or number to call and through speech recognition technology, the iPhone dials the contact based on solely the voice command from the user.

Loquendo is a Telecom Italia (News - Alert) company headquartered in Turin, Italy. The new Dillo! iPhone App is Italian for the phrase, “Say it!” and demonstrates the power of the company’s constantly evolving speech technology offerings.

The voice activated dialer incorporates Loquendo’s (News - Alert) embedded ASR technology which offers enhanced recognition accuracy and faster response time even on mobile devices, so users have a natural and highly effective interface that removes the need to use their hands.

The app was also developed in collaboration with TILAB, Telecom Italia’s Center for Innovation. And while it is currently only available in Italian, the company said it is being extended to other languages.

According to Loquendo, Dillo! Has already made it to the top 5 paid apps, and achieved the #1 spot for paid utility apps on the Italian section of the iTunes App Store since it was published on the on April 16.

With the inclusion of Loquendo's speech technologies into the iPhone application marketplace, and by providing access to their SDKs for Embedded ASR and TTS solutions, iPhone app developers can now use their growing portfolio of languages to enrich their apps with speech. This means easily making applications that allow users to access the Web, make calls, navigate, control functions and so mush more, all by using just their voice.

Recently, Loquendo announced that its Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech (TTS) software was chosen by Lyrix, a provider of speech-enabled collaboration solutions for large and distributed enterprises, to further improve the functionality of their Mobiso service including a better speech assisted directory and an overall improved user experience.

The company also made headlines recently when fleet management solutions provider Cordic, chose Loquendo’s ASR and TTS technologies to voice-enable their cPAQ taxi dispatch system. With new IVR capabilities, customers can book jobs, check on the progress of their bookings, and don’t have to speak to an operator or staff member to get information.
