iSpeech Launches SDK for Speech Recognition

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Speech recognition software is used by a number of different mobile individuals to handle self-service initiatives, enable hands free use while driving, and to authenticate users on secure platforms. As consumers continue to drive changing trends in content creation and consumption, speech recognition is expected to continue to grow.

A recent Washington Post report highlighted recent developments in the speech recognition space, specifically the latest innovation from iSpeech. Known as the developers behind the speech recognition application for DriveSafe.ly 2.0, iSpeech is now bringing its speech technology to the Android (News - Alert), BlackBerry and iOS.

The launch of a new SDK will enable the creation of new speech recognition applications on platforms consumers and business users can leverage while on-the-go and in their professional lives. The new self-service platform is designed to allow developers to integrate speech recognition and text-to-speech into their individual apps. The service is offered at no cost to all mobile developers currently supporting iOS, Android and BlackBerry (News - Alert) devices.

More than 40 text-to-speech voices are provided in the iSpeech SDKs and APIs, delivering support for more than 25 languages. Premium services are also available, including custom text-to-speech voices, or the use of celebrity voice personalities. Developers can also increase speech recognition performance based on their own specific criteria and analytics.

iSpeech has already been opening its API to specific partners, such as TeleNav (News - Alert), Car and Driver, DailyHoroscope and more. And, as the company recently shared, its speech recognition capabilities have enabled 1 billion text-to-speech and speech recognition conversations to date. Given the current demand, a billion more are sure to follow.

In other speech recognition news, TMCnet recently reported that iOS 5 will contain significant speech-to-text capabilities, thanks to Apple's (News - Alert) close relationship with speech technology company Nuance. To launch the speech technology on the platform, users will click the microphone icon and simply begin talking.

Verdatum recently released Verbble, its speech recognition app. This latest innovation offers cross-platform voice input driven by speech recognition that can be delivered as an extension of any electronic form or data field across all PC, smartphone and tablet ecosystems.
