Loquendo TTS Powers Quizlet's User-Generated Flashcard Sets

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Loquendo (News - Alert), a provider of speech technology services, announced partnership with Quizlet.com, the leading flashcards and study games site in the United States, to offer Loquendo Text to Speech (TTS) across Quizlet’s more than 6 million user-generated flashcard sets.

The Loquendo TTS and Loquendo ASR empower people to interact with technology in the most natural way possible using their voice. These speech technologies are integrated via the Loquendo MRCP Server and VoxNauta VoiceXML (News - Alert), CCXML & SCXML platform.

The partnership enables Quizlet to access Loquendo’s fluent and expressive Text-to-Speech in more than 12 languages. The service covers both Quizlet’s flashcards and their multiple study modes, such as the recently launched Speller.

The Speller now combines Loquendo TTS and adaptive learning, allowing users to practice foreign vocabulary, pronunciation and spelling.

“Audio is a key part of the learning process. Thanks to Loquendo’s TTS technology we can now offer it to our millions of users,” said Andrew Sutherland, Quizlet’s founder, in a statement. “Loquendo’s TTS technology blew us away.”

The integration of Quizlet with Loquendo Speech Synthesis has proven great success. The service has attracted many thousands of users in the first few days to try out and improve their language learning skills.

“Quizlet have made a truly effective yet really enjoyable set of tools for learning in more than 12 languages,” said Piergiorgio Vittori, Loquendo area manager for the Americas, in a statement. “It scores your results to let you know how you’re getting on, and keeps pace with your learning progress so that you continue to improve.”

Loquendo Text to Speech is available for any application environment, whether Telephony, Web, Desktop, Embedded, Automotive or Mobile. The technology is deployed in more than 20 million devices worldwide in embedded, automotive and mobile environments.

Currently the technology is available in 32 languages with 76 voices, and constantly growing.

Recently Loquendo announced it has entered the Indian marker with the launch of its brand new Indian English Text to Speech (TTS) software and a new female English-speaking voice with an Indian accent named ‘Veena.’
