Nuance (News - Alert) Communications Inc. announced today the closing of their acquisition of MobileVoiceControl.
First announced last month, the acquisition will help Nuance to more quickly deploy speech-enabled solutions for the wireless industry and specifically the mobile search and communications market.
With speech-enabled services added to communication and mobile devices, it is possible to use ones voice to perform tasks, navigate systems and create content more easily.
TMCnet's Susan Campbell reported that the deal, "will present greater opportunities for Nuance in the market as it will be better positioned to tap into areas that it previously lacked the functionality to compete. Clients of both companies will enjoy enhanced capabilities while the combined enterprise can focus on expanding the customer base."
Nuance also announced today that the Nuance Mobile team will preview their new applications and services at upcoming industry events throughout 2007.
MobileVoiceControl made news recently with the introduction of Narrator for Blackberry Pearl smartphones.
The solution reads aloud emails via the smartphone's speaker offering enhanced productivity and safety with a hands-free eyes-free experience for users.
In a statement to the press Paul Ricci, chairman and CEO, Nuance commented, “Speech technology is rapidly expanding the possibilities for consumers in the mobile environment. MobileVoiceControl’s service enhances the accessibility and utility of mobile devices, and by integrating the advanced speech technology of our Nuance Mobile product portfolio, we can truly become a transformative consumer service. Nuance Mobile now represents the industry’s most ambitious and advanced set of capabilities for today's mobile environment.”
