While the Tadiran (News - Alert) Coral Sea Softswitch is designed to save on conference call costs, as well as provide a centralized management for remote users, many companies are just now coming around to discovering the wide range of benefits that come with migrating to the softswitch.
One such outfit is Sulzer Pumps. The company recently added the softswitch to improve communications and better centralized management from their Oregon-based headquarters.
For a company like Sulzer Pumps the need for a more unified organization didn’t out-weigh the cost of completely fork-lifting their Nortel (News - Alert) systems in lieu of a true distributed solution, according to Patrick Lennon, vice president of Marketing.
Tadiran sells and supports a full line of telecommunications solutions through local and regional Business Partners. The Coral IPx IP communications solutions are designed to offer an easier and cost effective migration path to IP-based telecommunications. The Coral communications systems function as VoIP telephony servers and traditional switches, while combining feature-rich IP technology with traditional TDM telephony.
This means companies can move to an IP-based system in stages and at the speed that suits their business needs.
According to officials at Sulzer Pumps, there were three major factors that ultimately led to the decision to implement Tadiran’s Coral Sea Softswitch.
For starters, mitigating to the softswitch can reduce third party conference bridge costs, as well as provide IP telephone support to remote users, according to the company.
But the primary concern that led to the move is an unwillingness to invest more money into an aging Nortel system, according to company officials.
For Sulzer Pumps, it was important to minimize continued investments in its legacy infrastructure and create a more unified system.
Tadiran partner Best Tel helped Sulzer Pumps to achieve its goals by interfacing the Coral Sea Softswitch, thought the use of a PRI, with their existing Nortel PBXs. In the end, using the Coral Sea’s internal conference facilities, they added two new PRI circuits, they reduced the monthly conference costs by $6,000 per month, according to the companies.
In addition, users in remote locations now use Tadiran IP telephones as their desk phone, as well as soft phones and other IP devices for increased mobility. If the company had chosen to upgrade their legacy PBX (News - Alert) to achieve these goals, the costs would have been much greater, according to Tadiran.
The Coral Sea features a unified Web administration, a 48 party conference bridge and built-in redundancy on a Linux-based OS on standard PC servers from Dell (News - Alert).
As TMCnet reported back in November, Tadiran Telecom announced the release of the latest version of its Coral Sea Navigator.
