Voice and video service provider 8x8 announced Tuesday that its Packet8 Virtual Office hosted PBX (News - Alert) VoIP phone service is now being used by more than 5,000 small and medium-sized businesses across the United States.
Virtual Office is a VoIP-hosted virtual phone system. The system features an auto attendant, extension dialing, business class voicemail, a conference bridge and ring groups, and other business class PBX and dial tone features.
"Businesses today are well aware of the advantages VoIP phone service offers and will actively conduct research to find the solution that will save them the most money while providing the flexibility and feature set that best suits their needs," said 8x8's (News - Alert) vice president of Sales and Marketing Huw Rees in a statement.
"The Packet8 Virtual Office solution allows a company to utilize their existing high speed Internet connection to drive a hosted PBX phone service that offers unlimited calling, geographic freedom and powerful call management features, including full service administration, for just $39.99 per extension per month. This is a huge advantage for the typical small business which, until now, has had to sacrifice performance for price," he added.
Today's news follows 8x8's announcement about it introducing a new, high performance T.38-based business-quality fax over IP service.
The service can be immediately provisioned on the 2nd line of any Packet8 Virtual Office BPA-410 business phone adapter. No additional hardware is required, other than the business' existing fax machine. 8x8's fax service is based on the T.38 ITU standard for sending faxes across IP networks in a real-time mode.
