IVR Technologies Intros BlackBerry Smartphone Applications for Talking SIP

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

IVR Technologies has released several BlackBerry (News - Alert) Smartphone applications for use with Talking SIP, its fully integrated application, media and billing server.

According to IVR Technologies, the new applications provide the same benefit and seamless integration of the company’s recently released Windows Mobile 6 smartphone applications but are designed specifically for BlackBerry devices. The applications facilitate calling card and callback features, enabling significant cost savings over typically exorbitant mobile international long distance rates.

The Smartphone Calling Card and Callback applications can be accessed by BlackBerry users either from the Today screen or from the Applications list on their phones. When loaded, users can choose the desired destination party directly from the Address Book or by direct dialing the number in order to initiate the calling card or callback request. The call is made immediately with the calling card application. The application handles the sending of caller authentication, login and destination information.

IVR Technologies explained that, thanks to the callback application, after the request has been made, in mere seconds the mobile subscriber’s phone will ring and the person will be connected to the desired party. Leveraging the applications that are so tightly integrated into the phone, mobile users can now make international long distance calls in the same manner—and with the same quality—as regular calls, at significantly lower cost.

By capturing long distance traffic that is currently being serviced by mobile carriers, next-generation service providers are also able to drive additional revenue and margin to their networks. Because the Talking SIP solution can service calling card and callback requests from mobile subscribers located anywhere in the world it removes any and all geographic boundaries to the service provider’s target market.

Barry Sher (News - Alert), vice-president of Business Development, IVR Technologies said in a statement that the integration of Talking SIP into the BlackBerry Smartphone platform offers compelling cost savings for mobile subscribers and tremendous opportunity for the next-generation service provider.

Sher noted that the BlackBerry Smartphone is a favorite amongst corporate users and these new and innovative applications offer an efficient and cost effective means for users to stay in touch with their global contacts. He added that by integrating with two mobile smartphone heavyweights, providers now have the opportunity to market  services to a wider range of prospective customers.
