The news from SIP
PBX (News - Alert) maker Zultys as October got underway was availability of an update for software running on the company’s MX IP
PBX systems—version 3.2. The new software provides a variety of new features and improvements over pervious versions.
New features highlighted for the MX system software included the following.
-
Additive ringing – lets additional member of a group begin ringing on an unanswered call without moving from currently ringing phone.
-
Specific greeting on forwarded group calls – enables specific greetings to be played to callers when they’re forwarded into a call group’s voice mailbox.
-
Foreign agent login – an administrator can now assign login rights to group members for logging into groups from a node that is not their “home” node.
-
Third-party SIP phone integration – tight integration of features for use with Aastra and Polycom (News - Alert) SIP-based devices; includes paging, parking and pick-up.
-
Support for CyberData (News - Alert) SIP speakers – for use in overhead paging applications.
-
Software patch manager – management of firmware patches for MX products now performed using the MX Admin UI.
-
Node-to-node calling between non-synchronized MX groups – calls can now pass between nodes regardless of the synchronization status of MX nodes and the group master MX of a group deployment.
-
MX25 remote site survivability – remote IP phones can now be registered to an MX25 equipped with PSTN
trunks so calls can still be sent/received if the native system is not working.
-
NAT traversal for SIP – users no longer need to be equipped with a VPN
in order to connect to an MX system.
-
Improved transferring between MX internal services – fixes minor delays some users experienced when establishing voice paths during transfer between MX services
With version 3.2 of its software, Zultys introduced several new features for MXIE: Outlook address book integration, voicemail greeting control, softphone dialing and improved e-mail subject line/post-processing actions.
Also new with version 3.2 of the Zultys MX software are new auto attendant/voicemail features (defining of greeting in auto attendant for “leave voice mail” action, call group “access mailbox” default, improved operation during heavy recording load an language selection) and fax support (Windows Vista 32-bit support and a feature that allows TSID sending info to be stamped on outgoing faxes).
In related news, Zultys recently introduced its new Knowledge Base System (a resource VARs can use to offer enhanced support to customers) and Zultys Academy (lets VARs renew certification via online instructor-led sessions).
