Cloud: The Future of IP Fax
By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor
There is no doubt that the cloud is a rainmaker for many types of technology. Businesses are turning to the cloud to meet a variety of needs from storage to computing power to communication. And just about every communications technology vendor needs to look to the cloud to forecast the future of their industry. The fact of the matter is, the cloud represents the next step in the journey for companies, and it definitely marks the future of IP fax.
The largest companies on the planet, like Google and Microsoft (News - Alert), are leveraging the cloud to offer apps and various cloud services. All of this momentum will drive hundreds of businesses into the cloud and they will be looking for cloud faxing solutions.
Many IT departments these days are investigating cloud faxing options as an alternative to IP fax servers. With management pressuring IT departments to find cost-savings wherever possible, cloud fax solutions are becoming more and more tempting. Cloud fax services can be cheaper and easier to manage for smaller or understaffed IT departments.
Often, the decision comes down to whether companies view fax as a mission critical application. Some companies that rely heavily on fax still prefer to have on-premise fax servers so they can have more control over their faxing operations. But as the stigma of the cloud starts to lessen and companies understand that there is often more security in the cloud than in on-premise equipment, it will be more and more important for fax providers to put their heads in the cloud and look into cloud faxing solutions.
