Importance of E-SBCs in Today's Enterprise: AudioCodes Exec

By Beecher Tuttle, TMCnet Contributor

During TMCnet's most recent global communications conference, ITEXPO (News - Alert) West 2010, our own Erin Harrison had the opportunity to sit down and chat with some of today's leading providers of telecom solutions and services.

In this particular interview, Harrison caught up with Alan Percy, director of market development for AudioCodes (News - Alert), a VoIP technology leader focused on VoIP communications, applications and networking elements for enterprises and service providers.

Like many other companies that make their way to an ITEXPO event, AudioCodes came to Los Angeles to show off a few new innovations as well as network with other providers in the technology space. Percy and the rest of the AudioCodes' leadership group spent the majority of their time at the event promoting their new enterprise session border controllers, which offer a new set of functionality to enhance the company's media gateways and its multiservice business gateways.

Percy told Harrison that Audiocodes' new line of E-SBCs provides businesses with a number of key benefits; the first of which is interoperability. Enterprise session border controllers enable businesses to be compatible with a host of different service providers and SIP trunking providers, while also giving them the ability to access a wide array of applications, Percy noted.

He also said that E-SBCs provide enterprises with security, protecting them from negative impacts associated with the Internet and wide-area networks (WANs).

Finally, E-SBCs offer what Percy describes as survivability. "The union between the E-SBC and the media gateway allows a business to use both TDM and SIP trunking at the same time in a mechanism that, if the WAN or the SIP trunking service provider would go out of service for some reason, allows them to move their traffic back over to TDM infrastructure," Percy said. "It is a great way for businesses to make that migration to SIP services without risking a total cutover."

Soon after catching up with Harrison at ITEXPO West 2010, Audiocodes launched an Enterprise SBC channel with TMC (News - Alert). People who visit the site can find valuable resources such as whitepapers, industry updates, best practices, feature articles and breaking industry news related to the entire Enterprise SBC market.
