A Slow Summer for Power Protection Companies? Think Again

The power protection industry is certainly not taking a summer vacation this year, as leading companies in the space keep unveiling their latest products.

Last week, 4K Solutions, an information technology solutions manufacturer, consultancy and value added reseller, announced the launch of its 1U Global UPS, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The product was created after 4K Solutions US Army customers asked for a smaller UPS power protection device that would fit within a 1U rackmount space that could support their deployable VSAT routing and switching kits, as well as their radio over IP kits.

4K Solutions’ latest patent-pending solution is an Autosensing Universal 1U Rackmount UPS that provides dual voltage, making it operable worldwide, according to company officials. The unit stands ready to help fight issues such as data loss, downtime, and equipment damage due to power outages, voltage fluctuations and transient surges, and occupies only one rack space (1U) in a standard rack enclosure.

Power protection products such as these are particularly important nowadays, especially when instances involving downtime are running rampant.

From Amazon to Go Daddy to Microsoft (News - Alert), big players all across the tech space are catching downtime fever about as quickly as they are catching heat stroke.

“As shown in a recent story on CNN, our demand on the aging power grid is greater than ever,” Duston Nixon, marketing communications specialist for leading power protection company Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert), told TMCnet about this new trend. “Factors like unseasonably warm temperatures and the ever increasing number of electronic devices each of us own mean our current system is stretched to its limits.”

According to the CNN report, experts on the nation's electricity system have highlighted a worrisome fact that there has been a “steep increase” in non-disaster-related outages affecting at least 50,000 consumers. In fact, during the past two decades, blackouts have increased 124 percent – up from 41 blackouts between 1991 and 1995, to 92 between 2001 and 2005, according to research at the University of Minnesota.
