Network Processor: Telco Systems Partners with Advantech to Deliver Integrated 40G ATCA

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

A strategic partnership has been announced between Telco Systems and Advantech to deliver integrated 40G ATCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture) platforms. As a result of this partnership, Telco System’s carrier-grade switching software technology and blades will be brought to Advantech’s Networks and Telecom Group.

With these ATCA solutions in place, Advantech and Telco Systems (News - Alert) will be able to offer Tier-1 and 2 Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) a cost-effective and high quality carrier grade solution that will support next generation telecom networks.

“ATCA enables fast development of mission-critical telecom applications such as mobile (LTE (News - Alert) and 4G), metro Ethernet as well as security and military applications that require high performance and high availability,” said Avi Cohen, executive vice president of marketing and business development for Telco Systems, in a statement. “By incorporating our Carrier Ethernet technology and Advantech’s (News - Alert) extensive ATCA product portfolio, we can jointly offer a comprehensive and integrated ATCA solution.”

To bring a carrier-grade solution to Advantech’s ATCA market, Telco Systems leverages its extensive experience in Carrier Ethernet networks. The solution is equipped with sophisticated, field-proven switching middleware, layered on top of a Linux networking operating system to support a wide range of Carrier Ethernet requirements, such as L2 switching, IPv4 and IPv6 routing, load balancing, MPLS, VPLS, protection and redundancy.

At the cutting edge of multi-core networking platform designs and manufacturing, Advantech offers a scalable range of blades and systems based on Network Processor (News - Alert), DSP and x86 architecture to enable OEMs to build breakthrough solutions designed specifically for the enterprise, data center and carrier networks.

By leveraging its Taiwan-based design and manufacturing expertise, Advantech is able to effectively serve tier-1 and 2 TEMs and network equipment providers around the world with both standard and customized ATCA products.

“The partnership gives customers a competitive advantage as we combine state-of-the-art switching, advanced load balancing, traffic management, and classification with the massive performance of next generation packet, signal and application processors. The resulting scalable systems will meet the most demanding requirements imposed by network and mobile security, deep packet inspection and video workloads,” stated Franz Wei, vice president of Advantech.

“By reducing project risk and complexity at the system level, our OEM customers can get to market faster and more affordably with tested and dependable solutions. This will help our customers overcome the capacity challenges they are facing and respond more efficiently to increasing end customer demand,” Wei added.

In other Advantech news, TMCnet recently reported that company officials noted that quality of service (QoS) "has been much used to imply a more specific attribute of quality as well as a feature that allows control over specific traffic flows." Earlier this month, Advantech introduced a series of embedded boards based on the new second-generation Intel (News - Alert).
