Mobile VoIP Near the Tipping Point According to Report

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

A recent industry report confirmed what traditional telecom providers already knew: Mobile VoIP is going to shake up the telephony business.

“Few services promise the transformative impact on the telecoms landscape as mobile VoIP does,” noted the authors of The Mobile VoIP Market 2012-2017, which was released by market research firm, Visiongain (News - Alert). “With virtually no comparable rival technologies, the only barrier to success lies with operator strategies.”

The mobile VoIP market is at a crucial juncture where the technology could see widespread adoption, according to the report. Currently, consumers are keen to use mobile VoIP because it enables calling to move from the office to mobile phones to the home seamlessly. It also reduces the cost of calling by using data allocation instead of cellular minutes.

Yet, network operators are trying their best to discourage the use of mobile VoIP. But, with the vast opportunity to monetize mobile VoIP services, operators are enable to resist the tide toward the technology.

The authors of the report note that the winners in the mobile VoIP marketplace will be those that leverage the best operator strategies.

Helping those that are looking to differentiate their mobile VoIP offerings, REVE Systems has developed a number of technologies that mobile VoIP firms can use to rise above the competition.

One of those technologies is iTel Dialer Plus. The white label software enables mobile VoIP calling on cell phones of all types. But what makes the solution unique is that it comes with built-in bandwidth optimization technology that enables clear calling even when signal strength is weak.

The bandwidth optimization in iTel Dialer Plus can reduce bandwidth needs by up to 70 percent according to REVE Systems. The solution also can tunnel through firewalls, making it useful in most calling situations.

Offerings such as these will be needed to find success in the mobile VoIP market. While the prospects for mobile VoIP look good, competition will be fierce.
