EvoxTrading Expands VoIP Services in Africa

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

As we all know, voice over IP (VoIP) networks reduce costs and create more efficient solutions for consumers and providers alike. With the creation of the Voice Peering Fabric (VPF), the landscape of the telecom industry has changed even more drastically by moving all telephone calls into the IP domain, which delivers higher quality audio experiences than public switched telephone network (PSTN) and makes high definition (HD) voice possible.

This technology has completely changed the landscape for industries around the world, and it is making headway into some of the most remote areas of Africa as major pan-African telecoms providers begin to increase their service capacity by 40 percent. This latest effort by EvoxTrading, a VoIP carrier that focuses on Maghreb and Africa, will further its goal of delivering VoIP and SIP services to Africa.

EvoxTrading, will be deploying the session border controller (SBC) 5200 solution from Sonus Networks (News - Alert) in order to secure its network border, deliver voice termination services, and provide interconnect capabilities to it carrier partners.

Sonus Networks is provider of IP networking that is utilized by 50 countries around the world. Its SBC 5200 solutions has a unique design with embedded transcoding processing for real-time performance, SIP trunking solution with support for multiple SIP variants from IP-PBX (News - Alert) vendors, and built-in media transcoding feature with custom built DSP firmware.

According to Evox, the reason why it chose Sonus solutions is because of the growing demand for next-generation VoIP and SIP services in Africa.

“The performance and flexibility of the Sonus solution means we can provide new services and greater capacity to customers and partners in the region and help accelerate Africa as an emerging market,” said Romain Boulet, sales director, Evox.

With the many benefits it provides, the demand for VoIP has spread beyond the reach of countries like the U.S. and has even spread to more rural continents like Africa. As VoIP begins to replace PSTN, we are also beginning to see just how much it has expanded opportunities for users all over the world to gain access to the Web.
