D2 Technologies Hits 40 Billion Minutes of VoIP Traffic Per Month

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Embedded IP communications software platforms provider D2 Technologies’ VoIP technology is processing more than 40 billion minutes of traffic per month due to an increasing number of system on a chip (SoC) vendors and hardware and mobile device customers embedding its vPort VoIP solution into new products, according to the company.

A provider of embedded IP communications software platforms, the Santa Barbara-based company D2 offers a variety of embedded products from carrier-provided CPE equipment and enterprise unified communications devices to next generation processors designed to support optimized converged communications in mobile devices.

As TMCnet recently reported, the company’s vPort is establishing new industry benchmarks for high quality VoIP with advanced features and functionality. A market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, its vPort 2.0 now provides optimized support for the development of femtocells, mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and mobile handset products.

And last month, the company showcased its vPort abilities running on Cavium Networks’ (News - Alert)  OCTEON II multi-core MIPS64, which is expected to boost performance of D2’s vPort's 'softDSP' VoIP technology while streamlining the overall design.

Doug Makishima, vice president of marketing and sales at D2 Technologies (News - Alert), says it will integrate processors from Cavium Networks into its lineup in a bid to offer OEMs and ODMs a quicker and more effective method for developing voice/video/data equipment for the enterprise and carrier class markets.

“vPort is well-known for its high voice quality, unmatched interoperability and rich feature set, and is field proven in many service provider, enterprise and connected home deployments,” said Makishima.

In addition to Cavium Networks and its OCTEON family of processors, D2’s representative customer and partner products now using vPort include Freescale Semiconductor’s (News - Alert) PowerQUICC II Pro System on Chip platform, U4EA Technologies and its Horizon HG1100 Home Office Gateway, Applied Micro Circuits Corporation’s PowerPC 405EX processor, and SFR’s (News - Alert) Neufbox gateway for the Neuf Telecom network, to name a few.

“vPort is available on the widest array of SoC’s and ODM/OEM platforms in the industry.  As a result, manufacturers are using vPort to more quickly and affordably deliver new VoIP-enabled communications devices to market -- and, as a result, enabling D2 to establish the 40 billion processed VoIP minutes per month benchmark,” said Makishima.
