D2 Technologies Discusses Advances in Mobile Device Technologies at ITEXPO West 2011

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

D2 Technologies, a provider of embedded IP communications software platforms, announced that Doug Makishima (News - Alert), chief operating officer, has presented in multiple panel sessions at ITEXPO West 2011.

The first presentation, “Turning your Unified Communications (News - Alert) Solution into a Mobile Asset," discussed how IT managers can extend the power of in-place unified communications solutions to mobile devices. The discussion also explored how the latest carrier network technologies affect the enterprise.

Others who participated in the discussion include Kevin Gavin, chief marketing officer for ShoreTel; Snehal Antani, private cloud strategies and product manager for IBM; C. Don Gant (News - Alert), sales channel development for ICON Voice Networks; and Tom Keating, CTO and vice president of TMCnet (moderator).

Makishima also participated on a panel presentation, "Take a Tablet and Enable Everything," at the 4G Wireless Evolution Conference, held in conjunction with ITEXPO West 2011. “Take a Tablet and Enable Everything” explored how the tablet is bringing a mobile desktop experience to the enterprise, and whether or not processes should be re-engineered to benefit from workflow improvements.

Joining this panel with Makishima were Atul Asthana, vice president of technology initiatives Research in Motion (News - Alert); Ian McPherson, head of marketing and product management for Pedigree Technologies; and Kneko Burney (moderator), president and chief marketing strategist at Compass (News - Alert) Intelligence.

On Wednesday, September 14, Makishima also joined the discussion on how Voice over LTE (VoLTE) will impact services from mobile operators. The panel, “VoLTE and the IMS Core: Last Stand or Last Straw?" included Makishima; Anatoli Levine, Sr., director of product management for RADVISION; and Manual Vexler, chief marketing officer for IMS and NGN at Huawei Technologies.

The industry experts joining the VoLTE panel discussed the potential changes in carrier strategies, such as whether or not VoLTE and RCS will bring a new era to business plans or mark the transition to packets as the only unit of measure.

D2 Technologies offers converged IP communications solutions to next generation devices enabling manufacturers and service providers to deliver carrier-grade IP communications across any network, service and system for a broad range of fixed and mobile devices.

Recently D2 Technologies announced it has upgraded its mCUE mobile unified communications client. mCUE, according to company officials, is a complete IP video calling solution offering a number of benefits to OEMs, ODMs and service providers. It supports industry standard voice and video CODECs and offers wideband CODECs for high definition voice and an industry leading Acoustic Echo Canceller (AEC).
