As Winter Rolls In, Mobile Device Management Provider Receives Award

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

TMC (News - Alert) recently announced the winners of the 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Awards and on at the top of the list was California-based MobileIron, a provider of innovative mobile device management solutions.

Given out for the 14th consecutive year, INTERNET TELEPHONY selected MobileIron for this award due to the fact that it powers dynamic, industry-changing products. In addition, the company also demonstrated the vision, leadership and thoroughness associated with the Product of the Year Award, according to a press release.

Adam Stein, MobileIron, commented, “It’s always a great honor for the entire MobileIron team to be recognized for product innovation especially in the competitive enterprise mobility space. Our 1,400+ customers continue to benefit from a growing number of deployments and advantages like the secure Enterprise App Storefront, Advanced Encryption and Authentication not to mention native Multi-OS support to enable all of the latest BYOD advancements.”

The company’s MDM software provides a high level of security on a mobile communications network, while supporting multiple devices and continuing to reduce cost and downtime. This refers to both company-owned and employee-owned devices across the enterprise or mobile devices owned by consumers.

Moreover, MobileIron’s solution offers highly scalable enrollment options for managing mobile devices. According to a white paper titled, “7 Steps to Enable iPhones at Scale in the Enterprise,”the MobileIron Virtual Smartphone Platform comprises both a local authentication store and the ability to connect to LDAP for directory and authentication purposes for rapid enterprise deployment.

“The editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY have verified the selected products demonstrate quality and innovation plus provide real needs in the marketplace. These winners have exemplified excellence in IP communication technologies and I extend my congratulations to all,” Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), CEO, TMC added.

By leveraging these mobile device management solutions, IT and security administrators can simply select by group or individual user what rights should be assigned, including the ability to enroll phones. To empower end users, company administrators can enable the My Phone (News - Alert) @Work employee portal for smart device management to track, lock or fully wipe a device and even choose to enroll a new phone or tablet. Users only are required to give their phone number, operator and phone type to enroll. The user is then automatically sent a web link through APNS, C2DM, or SMS as the first step within the registration process. The process then allows users to download the native MyPhone@Work app from Apple’s (News - Alert) App Store, enter a one-time passcode which they receive through email and begin the automated provisioning process.

In 2012, MobileIron will be upping the ante on app security and management. “We’ll further build out our AppConnect partner base to take full advantage of the growing importance of apps in the enterprise. Another area where we’ll work even more closely with our 1,200+ customers and 200+ partners globally is around advanced yet unified security of multi-OS smartphones and tablets,” Stein concluded.

Moreover, in the New Year, the company will see advancements in three areas: granular mobile security will continue to be at the forefront of customer requests; more than 50 percent of companies globally will at least pilot a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy with at least two operating systems; and enterprise apps will number in the 100’s per device by the end of 2012.
