Smartphones make it possible to truly do mostly anything from the palm of your hand, including pay bills. Chase commercials are all over television showing you that you can send money from your account to other Chase customers via a smartphone application, and now Discover plans to offer a similar service to select merchants as an alternative payment options with BilltoMobile.
At the checkout, consumers can use their phone number in lieu of a Discover card. This means when people want to pay with their Discover cards at select stores or businesses, they can use a smartphone to send the money directly to the merchant. This type of payment is best for those who want to shop online as well. Instead of entering a credit card online, customer can use their phone number as a form of security. The joint venture between BilltoMobile and Discover aims to drive value to mobile goods, mCommerce and mobile payments.
In the past, customer had to enter their phone number, then zip code and wait for a text with a verification code to enter. The BilltoMobile program makes payments in one click, so not only is it secure, but quick as well.
“This agreement with Discover enables BilltoMobile to better serve our consumers, merchants and carrier partners,” Jim Greenwell, BilltoMobile's CEO said in a statement. “Our product offering will expand as will the ability to serve marquee digital merchants.”
Not only will the contract assist customers, but the success of this marketing contract could lead to many others joining the trend. Currently, BilltoMobile is the only direct-to-carrier that provides services to the four major mobile providers (Verizon Wireless (News - Alert), AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile) in the United States.
At this time BilltoMobile is currently available to 280 U.S. consumers which results in more than 90 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers.
