Sangoma Unveils High-Density Telephony Board for Digital Span Monitoring

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Sangoma Technologies (News - Alert) has launched a high-density telephony board for digital span monitoring. The T116 16-span tapping board provides passive tapping of digital telephony spans. Sangoma specializes in hardware and software components that enable IP communications systems for both voice and data.

Simon Horton, Sangoma director of product management, said, “With its support for up to eight digital spans on a single board, the T116 has double the capacity of any other passive tapping solution on the market. It is built on Sangoma’s highly regarded PCI (News - Alert) Express interface board technology to ensure broad compatibility with commercial servers.”

T116 provides a platform for building call monitoring, recording, logging, fraud detection and security applications. This is possible as the board leverages high-impedance circuitry to eliminate disruption or degradation of communications signals on digital spans.

The telephony board can monitor up to 240 individual calls. The new Model T116 will serve markets where compliance with T1, E1, or J1 standards is needed, said officials.

The T116 is characterized as the highest density board on the market, and features passive high-impedance tapping of digital telephony spans. The telephony solution delivered by the board helps developers with a reliable and dense platform that helps build call monitoring, recording, logging, fraud detection and security applications.

According to officials, the high-impedance circuitry provides a passive monitoring approach that eliminates need to insert a device that terminates and regenerates every call. Also, application programming interfaces (API) and source-code software development kits suitable for open source projects like FreeSWITCH and Asterisk (News - Alert) – and for proprietary PBX, switch, IVR and VoIP gateway applications – are also available.

“We have benchmarked full line-rate performance in a single 2u server chassis equipped with six T116 boards to provide simultaneous real-time monitoring of 48 digital spans,” added Horton.

Several development projects using the new board have started, and developers will benefit from it as they seek to create innovative high-density solutions to serve different telecommunication markets.

In December 2012, Sangoma launched a new product called Lync Express, which is making it easier for small and mid-size businesses (SMB) to take advantage of Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync as a complete unified communications and business phone system.
