Least Cost Routing Provides VoIP Carriers with Additional Revenue Opportunities

By Beecher Tuttle, TMCnet Contributor

To succeed in today's ultra-competitive marketplace, wholesale VoIP carriers need to increase their revenue growth at every turn.

Least cost routing solutions provider TransNexus (News - Alert) offers a series of innovative new services that can help VoIP carriers maximize their revenue opportunities, while also their keeping capital expenditures to a minimum.

The TransNexus Operations and Billing Support System (OSS/BSS) provides a number of least cost routing, number translation and time of day/day of week functions that can provide wholesale VoIP operators with significant advantages over their competition.

These benefits include the ability to deploy innovative, revenue-generating services like wholesale reselling of DID numbers, SIP Trunking and “follow me” services, where calls are routed to different devices depending upon who is calling and when.

Other feature-rich functions made available through the TransNexus OSS/BSS solution include high-margin 800 number services and call center routing, where voice traffic is routed in various manners depending upon the location of the caller and the time of day.

Another major benefit of the TransNexus OSS/BSS solution is its ability to eliminate the need for inefficient network control points. Traditional VoIP architectures squander bandwidth, require more ingress and egress ports and further add to post dial delay.

By utilizing an inter-carrier peering model, TransNexus' OSPrey Peering Server authorizes direct peering between VoIP networks on a call by call basis. This results in a more intuitive call flow with no redundant signaling ports and wasted bandwidth, meaning lower operating expenses and a better quality of service.

In addition to its least cost routing functionality, the TransNexus OSS/BSS provides multi-currency settlement billing. The solution sports a billing control feature that wholesale VoIP carriers can use to disable or enable customer traffic based on their settlement account balance and credit threshold. This service enables VoIP carriers to protect themselves from customers whose credit may raise a red flag.
