ITIL Training, Certification Can Open Doors to Employment Opportunities

By Brendan B. Read, Senior Contributing Editor

ITIL training and certification is not just a valuable tool in the IT support rep’s or manager web belt. It also opens the doors to distinct career opportunities: and in some gorgeous parts of the world.

Case in point is an opening for an ITIL Project Manager in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, the city that hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics with dramatic mountains and seascapes and a growing cosmopolitan city packaged together. Recruiting firm TEKsystems is seeking for its client an individual who will “create and execute on a plan to implement Incident Management, Request Fulfillment and other related processes in the IT Service Management program.”

“The ITIL Project Manager will manage the entire project lifecycle of the projects including developing project plans, collaborating with other Project Managers, identifying appropriate resources needed, assigning individual responsibilities, developing schedules, coordinating deliverables to ensure timely completion of projects…The position directs and coordinates a cross-functional team and manages inter-project dependencies and communication. The Project Manager will ensure that the formal project management methodologies are followed.”

Here are the skill sets being sought:

--Minimum nine years of IT project management experience in enterprise environments

--Minimum five years in the role of project manager managing, designing and implementing ITIL systems or processes with emphasis on ITIL v3 Service Operations processes

--Solid knowledge of project management methodology and best practices

--An understanding of key trends and players in the IT industry, particularly on ITIL practice and technology

--Experience in change management, budget development, financial management, and risk management

--University degree in an IT-related discipline or Business Administration or relevant experience

--PMP designation is an asset

TEKsystems’ (News - Alert) client is looking for applicants that have at minimum ITIL Foundations certification. “Higher level ITIL certification [is] preferred.”

To get going on an ITIL-oriented career the RCCSP Professional Education Alliance offers a comprehensive and in-depth range of ITIL training and certification courses at locations through North America, in Asia Pacific and virtually. There are courses on ITIL foundation; service catalog; release, control and validation (RCV); operational support and analysis; service offerings and agreements; and planning, protection and optimization. There is also instruction on lifecycle service strategy, design, transition and operation and continual service improvement, and on managing across the lifecycle.
