Dialogic (News - Alert) Corporation has reportedly expanded its IP Media Gateway (News - Alert) product line to include a new quad span density T1/E1 gateway; support for additional PSTN protocols; new IP security features; and expanded PBX interoperability. All of this comes with the newest edition of the company’s IP Media Gateway platform, version 5.1. Dialogic gateways which are already deployed can easily be upgraded to the new version.

Dialogic’s new T1/E1-IP Media Gateway, model TIMG12000DTI, sports four digital trunk interfaces and complements the single and dual T1/E1 models introduced earlier this year. The company’s gateway product line also includes the exclusive series of Dialogic PBX (News - Alert)-IP Media Gateways, which are said to provide tight integration with legacy PBX’s by translating proprietary digital PBX protocols into the open standard SIP and H.323 VoIP protocols. These gateways can interface with IP Media Server applications such as unified messaging, IVR, conference and speech servers to legacy telephony equipment.

The new version of the platform adds Alcatel, Ericsson (News - Alert) and Fujitsu to the extensive list of supported switches.

Richard Lajoie, manager of connectivity software for Nuance Communications, a leading supplier of speech and imaging solutions, said in a press release that his company had been searching “for IVR centric gateways that are easy to configure, maintain, support and cost effective to deploy,” and that the Dialogic T1/E1-IP Media Gateway delivered on this need. The gateway is simple to install “and yet provides all the features we require,” he said in the release.

In addition, the Dialogic T1/E1-IP Media Gateways are have been bestowed with more PSTN protocols to allow for their deployment in more markets and for more gateway applications. In addition to the existing ISDN, Q.SIG and CAS protocols, the Euro ISDN, DMS100 and 5ESS protocols have been added.

“While our T1/E1 gateways already had unparalleled support for PBX protocols and interoperability, they now have more connectivity options directly between the PSTN and IP networks,” stated Jim Machi, vice president of marketing at Dialogic, in the press release. “The upcoming move to Unified Communications in the enterprise and the growth of hosted VoIP services including IP-PBX, contact center and basic VoIP service over broadband requires cost effective access gateways to connect to legacy PSTN networks and switches. The Dialogic T1/E1-IP Media Gateways are rapidly growing in their ability to service these burgeoning applications with the expanded protocol set delivered today.”

The newly upgraded platform also addresses the need for VoIP security by delivering additional security for signaling, RTP packets and remote management. In fact, the entire gateway line now supports the TLS (transport layer security) standard for signaling, secure RTP for voice packet encryption, and secure HTTPS web access for management.

Dialogic was formed (or perhaps “reborn” is the better term) in October when Eicon Networks Corporation completed its acquisition of Intel (News - Alert) Corporation’s Media and Signaling business and announced that Eicon’s name would change (back) to Dialogic Corporation.
