Xorcom, a privately-held manufacturer of business telephony interfaces and appliances based on Asterisk (News - Alert) open source software, and Yealink, a designer and manufacturer of IP voice and video phones, have completed interoperability testing between Xorcom’s (News - Alert) IP-PBX models and the full range of Yealink’s SIP-T2x series HD IP Phones.

Xorcom’s appliances allow communication using both VoIP and traditional telephony protocols. Its system design “ensures the reliability expected from a propriety telephony system,” while providing the flexibility of an open source platform, company officials said.

In November TMCnet reported that “in a move to bring affordable visual communication to the masses by delivering the free face-to-face video call,” Chinese IP phone maker Yealink (News - Alert) announced the general availability of its new VP-2009 IP multimedia phone.

“Flaunting seven inches of touch-screen interface,” Torrieri wrote, “the VP-2009 is easy to use, equipped with a TI Davinci chipset and supported by H.263 and H.264 codec technology.”

Its intuitive touch screen makes the phone a nice option for SMBs and consumers who want to make quick video-and-voice-over-IP calls right from their work space.

The Xorcom IP-PBX (News - Alert) line supports all the features of the Asterisk PBX operating system while providing such additional features as dual-PBX hot failover with the TwinStar feature and high density of telephony interface combinations in a small footprint, company officials said.
