SIP Trunking Adoption on the Rise
By Casey Houser, Contributing Writer

Recent research expects the SIP trunking market to continue to rise through the year 2015. Companies deploying such technology are both large and small, and organizations of all sizes are witnessing the unification of their communications platforms through SIP trunking that is making it easier to operate and less costly to maintain.

A recent blog post at AireSpring, a U.S. telecommunications carrier, points specifically to Infonetics Research (News - Alert) results that shows 38 percent of companies deployed SIP trunking platforms in 2013, and it expects that number to rise to 58 percent in 2015. That sort of expansion alone describes the pervasive nature of the technology, and AireSpring (News - Alert) discusses several of the reasons why it is becoming so attractive to businesses the world over.

First, as it was stated before, the unification of voice and data systems makes it easier and more cost effective for businesses to invest in SIP trunking services as a way to handle all their communications needs. In a word, it is flexible.

That flexibility allows SIP trunking services to maintain real-time communications that may include VoIP, videoconferencing and audioconferencing, instant messaging, and other data-based communications services that businesses find themselves using every day. New technologies allow employees to interact more quickly, more efficiently, and with more power than ever. With unified communications platforms, two employees, for instance, can use the same business network to chat with high-definition streaming video while collaborating on a project with one person on a mobile device and the other person on a desktop computer. Everything works together because it all operates along the same system, and that system, in turn, supports the applications those employees need to complete all those tasks.

AireSpring also notes that SIP trunking services can function to keep employees in touch with their office devices while they are out of the office. Such UC systems can route calls from desktop phones to mobile phones, and if a business's systems are tied to the cloud, its employees may still be able to reach their voicemail and video messages even if the home base is witnessing technical problems.

More than anything, SIP trunking provides the technology necessary to allow work from anywhere. Employees are continuously becoming more mobile, and to complete their work on time and in good order, they have an increasing collective need to be able to access their company networks from anywhere. Unified services, combined with the cloud, make this possible, and it can make remote employees as effective as those located in the office. Businesses are building presence everywhere their employees set foot, and SIP trunking is helping them get there.
