snom IP Phones Flaunt Full Qualification for Microsoft Lync Server

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

IP telephony solutions provider snom technology AG has readied desktop IP phones for unified communications environments with the full qualification for Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync Server 2010. In fact, the supplier claims that all its IP phones are optimized and qualified for Microsoft Lync Server 2010.

snom said that compatible IP phones that have passed Microsoft’s rigorous interoperability tests are also qualified for Lync server. According to snom, no other compatible IP phone vendor has achieved this approved, qualified and certified status.

There are three sub-categories of IP desk phones with differing levels of Lync interoperability. First, the IP desktop phones optimized for Lync work seamlessly with Microsoft Lync software only. Second, qualified IP phones for Lync are compatible IP phones that have been fully approved, tested and certified by Microsoft. Thirdly, compatible IP phones are the ones which have not been approved, tested or certified, but are able to work with a limited selection of Lync features.

snom said, it offers both optimized and qualified Lync-compatible IP phones in its product portfolio. For instance, snom UC600 is optimized and works only in a Microsoft UC environment. Likewise, the snom 300 UC edition and snom 821 UC edition are currently the only compatible IP phones tested and qualified to provide interoperability and quality of experience with Lync, said snom.

While optimized phones are pre-installed with Microsoft Lync software and seamlessly work only in a Lync environment, qualified for Microsoft Lync compatible IP phones have snom software which has been 100 percent tested with Lync. It offers most Lync benefits and brings additional functionality to Lync. In essence, according to snom, they also work in other telephone system environments outside of Lync, In short, snom UC edition qualified devices can work together in dual Lync/PBX (News - Alert) environment (dual stack).

In summary, snom Microsoft Lync Server 2010 qualified phones are unique in a Lync unified communications environment because they are customizable, flexible, future-proof, and support migration strategies, asserted snom.
