snom IP Phones Interoperable with Microsoft Lync

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

When Microsoft Lync launched a few months back, it took over the wire as the next generation of communications servers. snom technology AG,  immediately jumped on board with the advancement.

snom, VoIP and IP phones are now interoperable with the Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync server. snom’s most widely deployed IP phone, the snom 300, has been tested by Microsoft for interoperability with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

According to a snom’s blog, the snom 300 is the company’s most widely-deployed IP-based desktop business phone, providing traditional business telephony functions in addition to advanced functionality such as multiple lines, programmable keys, backup failover line identities, low power consumption, maintaining superior voice quality at a reasonable price.

“This product testing with Microsoft is a great reference point for our resellers and distributors who are constantly looking for high-quality, affordable components that can speed the adoption of unified communications in the workplace,” explained Dr. Michael Knieling (News - Alert), executive vice president of marketing and sales, snom technology. “We hope to continue our work with all our technology partners, including Microsoft, to make snom phones the most effective endpoints for advanced business telephony systems.”

The qualification confirms the snom 300 as the first general purpose SIP phone tested to work with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2.The snom 300 uses the SIP for VoIP communications. This dedication to a standards-based protocol makes the snom 300 interoperable with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 while also retaining all of its standards-based SIP features.

“Microsoft is pleased to have snom join the rapidly-growing set of companies delivering hardware and software products that are compatible with Microsoft Lync 2010,”said Warren Barkley, director of product engineering, Microsoft Lync. “Our customers benefit from the innovation, choice and value that only a truly open approach can provide.”
