Snom IP Phone Systems: Green Doesn't Stop at IT

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

As the science behind global warming remains hotly contested -- sorry, couldn't help myself there -- the basic principle of conserving resources remains a sound one.

Snom wants you to know that while “green IT“ is the hot topic in information technology , a "sustainable and encompassing green strategy does not stop at energy-saving servers, computers, and monitors, but also includes IP phone systems."

With snom VoIP phones, company officials say, "you can be certain that you are also conserving energy when making calls."

Yes, it's true we're not talking huge amounts of energy consumption here, not like massage aficionado Al Gore's house or anything, but in spite of the relatively low energy consumption of VoIP phone models, "it accumulates over years and by the used number of VoIP phones," snom officials say.

In fact, snom officials offer a snom calculator, so "you can easily learn by playing how big your cost-savings with snom IP phones are in comparison to other IP phone models," and you can also "find out here how much money and carbon dioxide you can save per year."

A couple weeks ago TMC (News - Alert) had the news that snom Technology announced that its full suite of IP phones for the desktop has, “passed a battery of interoperability tests with 4PSA’s cloud-based unified communications product VoipNow."

According to company officials, the tests included the snom 3xx and snom 8xx desktop phones, as well as the snom m3 wireless DECT (News - Alert) phone. Snom officials say this support snom’s, "growing position as the go-to developer of intelligent IP endpoints for unified communications systems of all kinds."

The combination of snom’s open SIP architecture and 4PSA’s innovative cloud computing communications software is cited by company officials as offering customers a, "low-cost, highly functional enterprise telephony system" capable of being deployed and scalable "to hundreds or thousands of endpoints, if necessary."
