snom Showcases Flexibility, Interoperability for SMB-Targeted VoIP Phones

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Snom sells a pretty wide variety of VoIP phones, some as affordable as $100, and they also sell IP PBX offerings noted for their flexibility.

And it’s something they’re always looking to improve upon. In fact, company officials say on their snom Channel VoIP Phones blog, the snom ONE plus hardware-based IP PBX (News - Alert) solution offers "a new level of flexibility" to small office-home office and small to medium-sized business customers.

Snom officials have made a point of targeting the SMB market, and with this product they see flexibility as something of a calling card for the product, emphasizing that multifunctional PSTN connectivity and SIP trunking are “two of the new flexibilities it brings.”

The snom ONE plus is an out-of-the-box IP PBX system for use with the company's range of conference room and desktop cordless VoIP phones, and if you’re thinking of investing in just such a system it’s worth consideration, depending on your needs and budget.

Again, searching for ways to meet the needs of the SMB sweet spot, snom officials know that along with flexibility, interoperability is a Big Deal. In fact, TMC’s (News - Alert) Stefanie Mosca reported that they recently announced that the snom 821 was tested and approved by Microsoft (News - Alert) for interoperability with Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2.

The IP phone is also further being tested for use with Microsoft Lync 2010.

This recognition “represents the second snom desktop phone to be qualified through the Compatible Devices Program,” Mosca says, adding that the snom 821 “features a high-resolution TFT color display capable of displaying presence, supports speed dialing of client contacts, and hosts a gigabit-Ethernet switch. The IP phone can support up to twelve accounts and is the only phone in the market that can operate in a mixed environment of Microsoft OCS R2 and SIP on a single phone.”
