Speakeasy Extends Free Phone Offer

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Speakeasy announced it has extended its free phone offer through the end of August due to a record increase in leads and new customers.

The free phone promotion was introduced to eliminate one of the last barriers to VoIP adoption. Company officials said that it has spurred over 40 percent year-over-year increase in new customers.

Thanks to Speakeasy’s (News - Alert) free phone promotion, one of its new customers, the Rofo Group, was able to deploy a customized business phone solution with no startup costs. The Group operates a specialized search engine geared toward helping companies find office space.

It was in the process of trying out another VoIP provider, but they found itself disappointed by the poor call quality, company officials said. Speakeasy’s free phone promotion, as well as its quality of service (QoS) inspired the Rofo Group to make the switch.

“With the free phones offer, there were no up-front costs at all,” said Mike Garrity, COO at the Rofo Group, adding that Speakeasy provides an end-to-end solution including broadband, so they were able to guarantee the call quality we couldn't get with our previous provider.

Chris Gellos, vice president of sales at Speakeasy, said that the cost savings aspect of this promotion -- and VoIP in general -- are great. “But at the end of the day, what's most important is having consistently high quality calls.”

“Because Speakeasy provides both voice and broadband, our customers experience the most reliable and dependable voice quality that VoIP can offer,” Gellos said.

Speakeasy's free phone promotion provides free Polycom (News - Alert) SoundPoint IP 321 VoIP-enabled phones to new business customers who purchase unlimited or global Hosted Voice calling plans and have a minimum of five lines. The promotion was introduced in March and is expected to end in August.

Seattle based Speakeasy is a broadband and voice service provider. The company helps small businesses succeed by offering simplified voice and data solutions that improve the customer experience, increase employee productivity and help cut costs.

Earlier this year in June, Speakeasy combined its business with Covad (News - Alert) Communications and MegaPath.
