Applian Technologies Releases Replay Telecorder for Skype

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Applian Technologies has released Replay Telecorder for Skype (News - Alert) -- a simple way to use video/audio recorder for all Skype calls.

Applian Technologies officials said that the Replay Telecorder software's simple one-click recording process is geared to the more than 22 million daily Skype users who rely on the technology to stay in touch with friends and family but who aren't necessarily computer savvy.

Company officials said that Replay Telecorder offers the user a choice of six different call recording options from an easy to access drop-down menu.

These recording options are: audio only, picture in a picture, side-by-side video, recording just the local video, recording just the remote video or recording the call as two separate files.

Company officials said that Replay Telecorder for Skype downloads the audio/video of the call (verses using a screen-capture method) so the recorded file offers a perfect digital reproduction of the call experience.

According to company officials, Replay Telecorder, in addition to recording regular Skype calls, can capture video chats, conference calls and Skype voice mail.

The recorded file is saved in the AVI format, which can easily be played back using Windows Media Player.

Replay Telecorder for Skype works on any PC running Windows 7, XP or Vista with Skype installed.

Applian Technologies, a privately held company based in Marin County, California, creates affordable, easy-to-use recording, conversion and editing software for streaming-media enthusiasts.

Back in June Applian Technologies announced the release of Replay Media Splitter, an easy-to-use audio and video editor for online media files.

The program, which works on the most popular audio formats (MP3 and WMA) and video formats (AVI, WMV & ASF) allows customers to remove portions of media from audio and video files.

Applian isn't the only vendor trying to cash in on Skype's popularity.

Recently, IP multimedia phones manufacturer Grandstream  IP multimedia phones manufacturer Grandstream announced that its technology is now interoperable with Skype.

Specifically, Grandstream's GXE IP PBX (News - Alert) is now compatible with the Skype for SIP open beta program, making it the third VoIP vendor to test interoperable in the program, following Cisco and Shoretel.

In an exclusive podcast with TMCnet just days before the announcement, Khris Kendrick (News - Alert), director of business development, discussed the interoperability testing - and the significance of the news.

"Well, it's pretty huge for us," Kendrick told TMCnet, adding that achieving interoperability took about a year. "As you know, Skype is the biggest network on the earth. And Grandstream's participation in this in testing interoperability and getting certified is going to be huge for Grandstream because we have products that fit the right price point for Skype users and business users throughout the world."
