Grandstream's GXV3140 Features Make for a Standout Phone in the Consumer Market

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

Until recently, IP phones had been closely associated – even exclusively associated – with large enterprises.

But with new enhancements like video telephony, music and entertainment, SMBs and consumers alike are turning their heads to the devices.

Those are just a few of the features that Grandstream’s GXV3140 model, the latest addition to the IP multimedia phone manufacturer’s GXE product family. The GXV3140 (pictured) blends real-time video conferencing capabilities with a number of popular Web and social-networking applications.

Features include an advanced 1.3 megapixel-tilt capable CMOS camera (with privacy shutter), digital color LCD screen, dual Ethernet ports, a stereo headset jack and support for a full HTML Web browser and more.

Garrett Smith (News - Alert), director of marketing at VoIP Supply and author of the popular VoIP site SmithOnVoIP.com, said the phone’s simple-to-use features make it more appealing to consumers.

“Consumers have historically shied away from video calling due to its perceived complexity, the cost associated with endpoint hardware and of course the ‘dreaded’ monthly service fee,” Smith said. “But with Grandstream’s GXV3140 users will find themselves delighted by its ease of use, value price point and quality build. Plus it comes with the free IPVideoTalk service. Where I come from, we call this a great deal.”

The GXV3140 incorporates technology that helps users more easily communicate with each other: its peer-to-peer technology. The phone boots up within minutes, and, as soon as its user plugs the device into a broadband router, is ready to use.

“Using the GXV3140 to keep in touch with family over the holidays has been a real value-add to the quality of our life,” said Philip Ferreira, editor-in-chief of Reviewboard Magazine. “Because the GXV3140 works over the Internet, we didn’t have to worry about expensive long distance calling or video phone costs. We could literally put the phone at the table and keep the call going, talking and eating just like they were with us. It is the best way to keep in touch with family or friends without breaking the bank.”
