Market research firm Infonetics has released the latest findings from its “Service Provider Routers and Switches” forecast report which says that the router segment will continue on with growth in 2010 thanks to, “carries pushing out FMC strategies for their router networks,” Michael Howard, principal analyst for carrier and data center networks at Infonetics Research (News - Alert) said.

The research also found that worldwide revenue from service provider IP edge routers, IP core routers, carrier Ethernet switches, and multiservice ATM switches
jumped 17 percent in 4Q thanks to strong IP edge router sales.

 

Even with the bright spot, Infonetics research found that the market increase was still not enough to “offset losses for the year.” So the overall market was actually down 12 percent to $11.1 billion

One interesting note, Asia Pacific was the only region that posted year-over-year growth in the market. The 19 percent increase since 2008 was due mostly to Chinese government telecom stimulus and newly re-organized operators, Infonetics said.
