Ooma, a Palo Alto (News - Alert), Calif.-based provider of free HD home phone service, announced today a giant step in the advancement of home phone communications with the new Ooma Telo Air adapter.

The wireless adapter, available for $49.99, can be placed anywhere in the range of a home’s wireless network to allow not only HD voice quality free phone service in the home – but also offers the wireless freedom users have come to enjoy with their mobile phones.

The adapter works as an extension of the Wi-Fi in a user’s home and automatically connection to the Wi-Fi network, making it easy to move the device between two homes, company officials said in a phone interview with TMCnet.

The technology behind the new device allows the Ooma Telo to un-tether from the homes modem or router so users have more convenient access to their cordless phone base stations - where they can access voicemail messages and other advanced features offered by Ooma.

This home Wi-Fi VoIP connectivity, an offering company officials note is a “first-to-launch” residential VoIP running over a Wi-Fi network, is made possible thanks to the company’s PureVoice HD technology that includes advanced voice compression and adaptive redundancy to overcome signal degradation within the wireless network. The latest 802.11n wireless standard is also used for crystal-clear call quality and more natural sounding conversations.

In addition to the new wireless adapter, Ooma also announced today that its Bluetooth service is now also available to all subscribers, and is no longer only for Premier customers.

By adding the Bluetooth adapter to their Ooma Telo, customers can answer mobile phone calls using any of their home phones without having to worry about poor reception or dropping calls due to lack of cell service in the home.

Ooma’s Bluetooth adapter, which is available for $29.99, provides a transmission range of up to 30 feet and can support up to seven Bluetooth devices.

According to company officials demand for this offering is very high as more and more users want to duplicate the mobile phone experience in the home.

Further integrating the mobile and home phone experience, Ooma also offers the Ooma Mobile HD App for Android and Apple (News - Alert) mobile devices so customers can save money on domestic and international calls by tapping their Ooma account on the go over any Wi-Fi or 3G network.
