eTelemetry's E911 Emergency Notification System Avaya Compliant

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

In a sign of one enterprise communications provider's increasingly prominent role in workplace communications, Avaya (News - Alert) today announced the some enhanced 911 solutions from a company that extracts business information from network activity now comply with some of its applications, systems and services.

Specifically, eTelemetry's LENS and Locate911 (News - Alert) solutions are now compliant with a key telephony communications solution from Avaya. Organizations using LENS and Locate911-N can identify the exact station that initiated an emergency call and where to find them so that internal personnel can provide first response and direct emergency services.

Such E911 issues are becoming more and more important, and it's critical for E911 solutions providers to work with Avaya, a major provide of communications for the enterprise.

Recently, as TMCnet reported, Guy Clinch, senior solutions manager of contact center solutions at Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Avaya told TMCnet that he works companies such as Chicago-based RedSky Technologies, a provider of E911 solutions, to make sure that 9-1-1 calls feed exact caller location information to dispatchers, helping save critical emergency response time that can protect lives and property.

Clinch told TMCnet that one of the many things that Avaya and RedSky (News - Alert) do collaboratively is provide tools that first, ensure that a 9-1-1 emergency call can reach the right government public safety organization that has jurisdiction over the actual location of the emergency and provide information that can be used to promptly locate the person who is experiencing the emergency.

"We also work together to provide other tools that include applications such as onsite emergency notification systems that provide in-house responsible personnel with highly relevant and actionable information," he said.

Avaya engineers develop a comprehensive test plan for each application to verify whether it is Avaya compliant. This will ensure that businesses can confidently add best-in-class capabilities to their network without having to replace their existing infrastructure. The process helps in speeding deployment of new applications and reducing both network complexity and implementation costs.

This week's announcement touches on eTelemetry (News - Alert) solutions. The LENS On-Site Notifications deliver location information via a Windows-based desktop alert agent and e-mail to multiple recipients. The map links included in the alerts provide added insurance that responders will know where to go in an emergency.

Company officials say LENS also limits organizational liability and helps meet E911 regulations. It provides alerts including life-saving location information for emergency responders immediately whenever a 911 call is made.

Locate911-N automates Voice over Internet Protocol or "VoIP" phone tracking to ensure data accuracy for improved emergency response and E911 compliance. Now the applications are compliance tested with Avaya for compatibility with Communication Server 1000 or "CS 1000" Release 6.0.

"Having LENS and Locate911-N compliance tested with Avaya gives businesses an Avaya compliant E911 solution that can be easily deployed on networks using the CS 1000," Ermis Sfakiyanudis (News - Alert), eTelemetry's CEO said.

Coppin State University is one of the customers benefiting from the interoperability of eTelemetry and Avaya solutions. Coppin State is a comprehensive, urban institution offering programs in liberal arts, sciences and professional disciplines.

"Knowing the location of a phone when 911 is dialed is critical to ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors," Ahmed El-Haggan, vice president and chief information officer at Coppin State University, said. "eTelemetry's E911 solutions are life-saving technologies that we believe should be deployed on every college campus."
