Hostway Completes SAS 70 Type II Audit; Demonstrates Delivery of Reliable Environments

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Hostway Corporation, an infrastructure and Web application hosting company, has announced the completion of the SAS (News - Alert) 70 (Statement of Auditing Standards No. 70: Service Organizations) Type II audit for four of its North American data centers.

According to company officials, SAS 70 was developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for those service providers seeking to demonstrate control effectiveness for customers and their independent auditors. This audit process has become one of the most widely recognized auditing standards for service organizations.

With the SAS 70 Type II designation, customers are assured that Hostway (News - Alert) delivers fully secure, reliable and effective operating environments with the proper controls for conducting high availability IT and Internet operations.

"Our enterprise hosting  customers, particularly those who are public companies or operate in regulated  sectors such as  healthcare or financial services - require independent validation of internal security and controls," said Todd Benjamin (News - Alert), director of enterprise hosting.

A major independent audit firm conducted the SAS 70 Type II process, which included a detailed review and testing of operational controls and supporting processes.

"The SAS 70 audit process is one component of our overall strategy of providing highly secure, redundant, and reliable hosted  infrastructure solutions to leading internet, corporate and governmental organizations," added Benjamin.

More than 1.4 million Web sites and 600,000 customers throughout the world benefit from dedicated hosting, shared hosting, colocation, domain name registration, eCommerce solutions and Web-based services provided by Hostway.

The company currently operates more than 250,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art data center space meant to reduce the complexity and cost of Web-based technologies for small businesses and large enterprises.

In other Hostway news, the company announced earlier this week the closing of a $110 million debt and equity financing deal with a consortium of investors. This move was an effort by Hostway to support its continued growth plan.

In late 2009, the company selected Brocade (News - Alert) and its IP network to drive advanced service and global footprint growth. According to Charles Charmantz, general manager of network services at Hostway, Brocade gives Hostway "the most complete, stable, cost-efficient and easy-to-manage network it has ever had."

Hostway announced last month an offering of 30 days of Smart Cloud Storage for free. Smart Cloud Storage provides a simple storage service that offers organizations a scalable data storage infrastructure.
