Enterprise cloud computing company CRM sales software, CRM cloud computing and customer service software provider Salesfore.com has launched the developer preview for Salesforce Chatter, providing a select group of developers with access to the new social capabilities of the Force.com platform.
Parker Harris, executive vice president of technology at salesforce.com, said that the company is launching the Chatter developer preview for its developer community so members can see what’s possible with the collective creativity and imagination.
In the developer preview, 5,000 select developers are expected to receive a Chatter-enabled development environment to begin building social apps on the Force.com platform, according to company officials.
Additionally, the company is also all set to introduce Chatter DevZone. Company officials said that it’s a Chatter-powered community where developers can share ideas, and collaborate on building new social enterprise apps. In addition, they will be the first to see the latest social apps developed by their peers.
With Chatter, developers can leverage the “real-time breakthroughs” by consumer services from Facebook (News - Alert), Twitter, and Google and apply them to create enterprise apps.
Company officials said that the integration of social capabilities such as feeds and profiles with salesforce.com’s secure, model of the Force.com platform make building enterprise social apps “five times faster and half the cost of traditional software platforms.”
Chatter is expected to be generally available later this year. And, once it’s available, around 150,000 custom apps built on Force.com can instantly become social, said company officials. This offering will features a rich set of pre-built components that developers can use to build apps that leverage the real-time social capabilities
Some of the features include profiles; status updates; chatter feeds; groups; application updates, security and sharing model; content sharing, social networks; Google (News - Alert) Developer Toolkit; and more.
“With Chatter, Developers can now add social capabilities like user profiles, status updates and real-time feeds to any Force.com app with just a few clicks,” said Marc Benioff (News - Alert), chairman and CEO at salesforce.com.
Salesforce Chatter is scheduled to be generally available in calendar year 2010.
Moreover, Salesforce Chatter will be included in all paid editions of Salesforce CRM and Force.com.
