Colocation Facilities Provide Connectivity for TrustComm Inc.

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

AboveNet Inc., a Telehouse partner and leading provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions, announced that it will provide fiber optic services to TrustComm Inc. to help the company connect with many leading oil and gas companies in Houston, Texas, that link to Africa through TrustComm satellite.

TrustComm Inc. will rely on AboveNet’s diverse fiber paths, which will be installed at TrustComm’s Houston teleport facilities, to help provide significant fiber capabilities from the TrustComm Network Center to the head offices of the major operators in Houston.  Proper data delivery to foreign operations is critical, according to company officials, because many of the world’s oil and gas companies are headquartered in Houston.

“To extend our network reach here in the U.S., we sought out a partner whose philosophy for delivering highly reliable, managed services met ours, and we selected AboveNet,” said Robert Kubbernus, president and chief operating officer of TrustComm, in a statement. “Integrating AboveNet as a service partner into our portfolio sharply improves our network reach, performance, and ability to provide global door to door services.”

TrustComm customers will experience significant benefits with this new service, as clients will receive their services through one of the industry’s “most robust” end-to-end fiber and satellite integrated networks available, according to company officials.

TrustComm customers will experience a reduction in latency because the services will be delivered directly from Africa to Houston. Moreover, network security will be enhanced by reducing the number of foreign countries customers’ data must travel through in order to reach its final destination.

“As major corporations deploy enhanced software solutions across their networks, we are pleased to provide our significant fiber assets to enable a direct line approach from West Africa into TrustComm’s Houston Network Center,” said John Jacquay, senior vice president of sales and marketing at AboveNet.

AboveNet, which offers a private optical network that delivers key network and IP services in and among top U.S. and European markets, is widely used in markets such as financial services, media, healthcare, retail and government.

“AboveNet’s vision is to be the premier provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions for customers who desire a private, flexible and scalable transport infrastructure,” according to company officials. “Our goal is to continue to monetize our superior fiber assets by providing large bandwidth customers with customized solutions that are superior to the tariffed offering of our competitors.”

AboveNet is a carrier partner of Telehouse, a data center and colocation facilities provider. With 41 data center worldwide, Telehouse has been a leader for the past 20 years in the development of data center services.

Recently, Telehouse opened its latest New York-based colocation facility, located right in the heart of the Chelsea meat packing district of lower Manhattan.

The new carrier-neutral data center, which officially opened its doors on Jan. 24, serves as Telehouse's third colocation facility in the New York City area. The company also operates data centers in downtown Manhattan and on Staten Island, where it maintains its corporate headquarters. Telehouse now has over 41 sites in 22 cities across 11 countries.
