When Radiográfica Costarricense, a major telecom provider for data, Ethernet, and Internet services in Costa Rica, wanted to expand its network it reached out the an Israeli-based company to help grow while cost-effectively combining SDH, Ethernet switching and WDM on a single, converged platform. 

 

ECI Telecom (News - Alert), a global provider of networking infrastructure solutions, announced it had been contracted to run the network with its LightSoft multi-layer network management system. The service delivers an end-to-end solution to manage the different equipments, network segments and technologies under one management system.

 

After being faced with increased competition in Costa Rica, RACSA (News - Alert) decided major expansion project was needed to provide more data services as well as add video and voice services to its customers. 

 

In a bid to support their aggressive expansion efforts, Alberto Bermudez, deputy manager of RACSA, says the company decided to go expand its network with ECI’s XDM Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP). 

 

“ECI's XDM MSPP platform was the platform to have met all our requirements in the most cost-effective manner. ECI’s innovative, single platform XDM MSPP, offering the most advanced services on the same flexible platform, (SDH, WDM, Ethernet, Video), and the most competitive total cost of ownership were the main considerations to drive our decision to work with ECI,” said Bermudez.

 

In fact, ECI's Global Services Division unit ­-­-`together with ECI Costa Rica staff ­--  have worked closely with RACSA to allow the full deployment of an end-to-end turnkey project.  In addition, ECI is now concluding with RACSA the expansion of this network.

 

"We are committed to supporting an aggressive network expansion, and we need to continuously invest in the most advanced but still cost effective technologies available to keep up with the fast growing requirements of the Costa Rican market and the increasing competition,” said Bermudez.

 

 

It is not the first foray into the country for ECI. The company also has partnered with another of the Costa Rica’s largest carriers.
