Business phone system specialist FacetCorp (News - Alert) this month unveiled release 4 of its FacePhone IP-PBX
. The new version includes more than 90 enhancements to voice mail, call recording retrieval, presence management, call reporting, and administrative and call center tools.
In particular, FacetPhone’s presence management features are greatly enhanced in Version 4. Presence management data history (showing when users logged in and out and when their status changed) is now easily available to managers and supervisors.
“In addition, FacetPhone V4 shows how long a user has been in a certain status in the live Users’ display window,” FacetCorp Vice President and General Manager Paul Vance told TMCnet in an e-mail correspondence. “Not only does this provide good information to other users about when they can expect to be able to communicate with their co-worker, it is also a terrific management tool.”

Another key improvement of FacetPhone 4 is inclusion of the NetTAPI protocol, which takes computer telephone integration to a new level.
NetTAPI, FacetCorp explained in its announcement about the upgraded product, is an application programming interface
that allows third party software applications to communicate with the FacetPhone system. This means that, for example, customers can automatically have records showing call details imported into a customer relationship management system.
The NetTAPI protocol also enables functionality such as initiating and terminating call recording, notification of phone activity, and requests for call detail records—all from other applications.
For FacetPhone 4, FacetCorp also spent some time enhancing the IP-PBX’s (News - Alert) voicemail features. The system now gives users more flexibility for accessing voicemail when not in the office.
“Version 4 lets users define one or more telephone numbers for FacetPhone to call to proactively deliver new voice mail,” Vance told TMCnet. “With this option, users no longer need to call in to check their voice mail after their cell phones have been turned off since FacetPhone can call them with any new messages as soon as they turn their phone back on.”

Vance continued: “This new proactive delivery feature in V4, along with the other voice mail delivery options, combined with the visual voice mail available through the rich FacetPhone graphical user interface, make FacetPhone one of the best voice mail systems available today.”
Vance added that, even prior to Version 4, FacetPhone already included features that let users have calls forwarded to their cell or other phone number, and have voicemail delivered to their e-mail box as a WAV file or text message.
Other new features of FacetPhone 4 include automatic, user-scheduled archiving of call recordings and a Web-based interface for accessing and sorting archived call recordings.
