Tablets, smartphones, laptops and other mobile devices are common in today’s workforce. Employees are bringing different devices and operating systems into corporate networks, which has led to us to the “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) era.
A recent study found that the majority of employees, 77 percent, are using their own mobile devices to some extent – either exclusively or in addition to company-issued devices. Sixty-seven percent of employees are using devices for business correspondence, such as e-mail and phone calls, and 44 percent are using their device for professional networking. While this study found a large number of employees using personal devices to access corporate networks, it also found that only 30 percent of companies had a policy for managing personal mobile devices in place, and only 12 percent plan to adopt one in the near future.
To tackle the security concerns and challenges that BYOD brings to a company, IT managers turn to mobile device management (MDM) solutions. MDM helps organizations secure mobile endpoints and support a diverse, mobile-connected workforce.
Fiberlink, for example, provides an MDM solution that covers app management, document management, device management and expense management. The solution, MaaS360, uses cloud-based technology to offer a comprehensive solution for total enterprise device management.
In an upcoming webinar, “Beyond MDM – The Best Tools for the Next Stage of BYOD,” Chris Hazelton, research director of mobility and wireless at 451 Research, will join officials from Fiberlink to share insights on the emergence of next-generation enterprise mobility management technology in the BYOD era. Attendees will learn how IT can address security, privacy and regulatory concerns, recommendations for enterprise mobility management technology adoption and best-in-class methods for achieving mobile e-mail, document and app-level security.
